Abstract

The article illustrates a `new architecture' for the interaction, co-ordination and guidance of future ICT-facilitated logistics. The architecture is elaborated in the form of an engineering platform known as AgileFrames and organised according to the paradigm of communicating intelligent actors. As well as having executory actors the system may also reveal brokering factors. What is characteristic is the flexibility, the quality of being able to deal with every scale size and the absence of centralised managing authorities. The set up will be discussed as a `high performance' container terminal application. What is topical is possible applications for the Maasvlakten (i.e. the Maas plains) development and the way in which this is integrated into the Waalhaven area via a corridor along the Nieuwe Waterweg.
