Abstract

In the course of a three-year study a research team of 25 physicians clocked some 3,000 hours on the road with professional truck drivers. Several major stresses play an important part in a truck driver's life: air pollution, both inside and outside the cab; whole body vibration - a novel form of physiological abuse that may have far-reaching effect; noise pollution; emotional strain and downright fear of driving on today's congested highways; and fatigue, aggrevated by long hauls, erratic hours, and uncertain weather conditions.
