Abstract

Traffic congestion has become endemic in many metropolitan areas. Congested roadways affect regional economies and quality of life, but building new highway or transit facilities to enhance capacity in urban areas is difficult to accomplish. This paper details the findings of a working group created to explore how regional transportation systems operations might be improved through a stronger linkage to regional transportation planning.
