Abstract

In Magdeburg, a city with a quarter of million inhabitants in Germany, an unconventional way of low-cost getting road traffic information was started to go. The alternative idea was the development and application of a wireless traffic observation camera network, which uses free of charge radio frequencies. The paper describes the approach of gathering and provision of still video images for presentation in Digital Audio Broadcast and Internet, which has been successfully demonstrated in a DAB pilot project in the Middle-German Country Saxony-Anhalt since 1998.
