Abstract

In the neighbourhood of 10 different junctions in Amsterdam the air pollution caused by traffic was measured. Three components of air pollution are mostly increased by traffic: carbon monoxide, hydrogen monoxide and lead. There was a clear correlation between the average speed of traffic and the quantity of air pollution. From the point of view of energy conservation and of decreasing air pollution a smoothly traffic flow is very important.
