Abstract

The article notes that it is essential that parents be aware of their children's special vulnerability, since they have limitations that are not immediately apparent. parents must teach their childrensafe behavior around motor vehicles and roadways. this must continue as the child grows older. the article offers tips on teaching safety to children of various ages, based on the program guide to the national safety council's 'walk alert' program. the tips are divided into those most suitable for preschool children, elementary school children (kindergarten through 3rd grade), elementary school children (4th through 6th grade), and junior high school children. it is alsosuggested that pedestrian information safety material may be included in a babysitting course for junior high school children.
