Abstract

This paper summarizes the four-year research project that is being undertaken to develop and implement a new road safety management framework for a national road network. The three inter-linked documents that put in place the framework are collectively known as the strategic safety plan. The aim of the strategic plan is to deliver casualty reduction through a consistency of approach across the whole motorway and trunk 'A' road network. By spreading best practice throughout the Agency, ensuring that monitoring is undertaken that will identify the success of safety work, delivering best value for money and enabling reporting on progress towards the casualty reduction targets.
