Abstract

Serco is the leading provider of transport management systems in the UK. It provides the UK National Rail Enquiry Scheme and the Rail Event Information Communications Centre. Traffic Information Services (a wholly owned subsidiary of Serco) was selected by the Highways Agency to deliver and operate the national Traffic Control Centre (TCC) project. Key activities in the TCC project include the construction of a new national Traffic Control Centre building in the Midlands and the implementation of a national traffic-monitoring network supported by a computer system and communications to link it existing systems. As part of the TCC contract, Serco took over operation of the Midlands Driver Information System from the police. Serco will also be responsible for the management and administration of the Travel Information Highway. Serco Docklands Ltd. operated the Docklands Light Railway under franchise.
