Abstract

This paper considers the relationship between speed and safe driving. Factors affecting speed choice include example (from racing drivers) and social pressure. Driving violations are associated with sensation-seeking behaviour and antisocial tendencies. Young drivers most likely to be associated with speeding incidents are poor at judging hazards. The author feels that community and parental pressure is needed to restrict young people from driving in unsafe situations.
