Abstract

Driving while intoxicated is considered a major traffic problem in the Netherlands. After a new DWI-legislation became operative in 1974 the DWI-rates declined sharply, but are now again on the pre. 1974 level. An investigation was done with the primary aim to suggest improvements of police enforcement procedures. A questionnaire was administered to males in the Leiden-area and subsequent interviews with a sub-sample to acquire information on various DWI-related topics.
