Abstract

This paper describes some of the practices established by Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation in order to achieve the objective of maintaining the quality of service on the southern road system and responding to the need for more highway investment to help expand industries in the north. The public road system in Saskatchewan is described and the pattern of transport movements highlighted. The history and philosophy of highway investment in Saskatchewan is reviewed along with a report on some of Saskatchewan's practices that have helped in achieving maximum utilization of highway budgets, providing acceptable level of access to scattered communities throughout the province and maintaining the current highway system.
