Abstract

The aim of the study reported here was to obtain information about hours of work and sleep from drivers operating in a state without restrictions on hours of service. (These are referred to later as unregulated drivers). It was also intended to have both drivers and companies identify the causes of fatigue and the effective countermeasures they use to manage it. Where possible, these findings are compared with those of Williamson et al.'s drivers, 90% of whom were from eastern states of Australia with restrictions on hours of service. (These are referred to as regulated drivers in later sections).
