Abstract

Mandatory safety belt use law would provide nearly the same protection during a motor vehicle accident as air bags. Although safety belts with a mandatory use law would likely be worn by only 60, , o of all occupants, belts are more effective in providing protection from all collision angles. A mandatory use law would provide the most benefit, because more occupants would be protected at a faster implementation rate.
