Abstract

There is a growth in the use of smart cards for the payment of parking and public transport. Details are given of the major suppliers of smart cards and of their recent contracts. Recent contracts obtained by Cubic Corporation include the Oystercard project, the Queue Buster fare machines in London and ticket gates on the UK national rail network. The ERG Group of Australia supplies hardware and software for smart card systems. Recent contracts include an automated fare collection system in Stockholm, Sweden. Thales e-Transactions CGA S.A. supplies integrated fare systems for transport. New contracts include e-ticketing systems for the Ile-de-France surface transport network and the Trans Link Systems venture in the Netherlands. Other international ticketing supply companies include Scheidt and Bachmann, Atos Origin and Ascom.
