Abstract

This article considers the type of vehicle most commonly driven by teenagers in the USA, and the safety implications. Teenagers tend to drive older and smaller cars bought by their parents with cost as the major consideration. Student cars parked at three high schools were categorised, with the largest proportion being small cars. A significant number of pickups and sport utility vehicles were also noted; since these have a higher rollover risk, they are also not recommended.
