Abstract

IMAPCAR is an ASSP (Application Specific Standard Product) designed to fulfil the cost, performance and flexibility requirements of an in-vehicle image processor LSI by adopting a simple but highly parallel configuration while maintaining software flexibility. This is achieved by providing an extended C language compiler and proposing parallel and systolic algorithmic techniques to extract the inherent parallelism of image recognition tasks. Benchmark results show that IMAPCAR can achieve a performance up to 8 times better for image filters and about 4 times better for ASV (Advanced Safety Vehicle) applications, compared with recent high performance GPPs (General Purpose Processors).
