Abstract

Serum from injured automobile and motorcycle (MTC) drivers treated at a trauma center was tested for delta-9-tetrahydrocanna-binol activity to determine pre-crash marijuana use. From June 1990 to March 1991, samples from approximately 20 automobile drivers per month and all motorcycle drivers were available for testing. Also, toxicology screens were performed for ethyl alcohol, cocaine and phencyclidine among the driver groups. The study indicates that automobile drivers admitted to a mid-Atlanta regional trauma center has decreased markedly. The same has not occurred among cyclists. In addition, alcohol, cocaine and phencyclidine use was higher for the cyclists.
