Abstract

The marketing department of the Netherlands Railways is involved, among other things, with providing information on travel. It was felt some years ago, that the available information did not meet the existing requirements. The information was incomplete, inaccessible and not easy to produce. With the growing possibilities computers gave, it was decided to implement the sources of information on computers. All kind of databases and information systems were developed and are now in use. Almost all of the information queries are now answered by information systems. This paper describes the development of the information system. Some examples of existing management information systems are also given.
