Abstract
Despite all the prophecies of doom, traffic on Swiss roads has expanded considerably over the past few years, and will probably continue to do so in the future. However, there are strict limits placed on road network expansion in Switzerland. The limited space available, scarce land reserves, and environmental consideration make it necessary to use existing roads more efficiently than before.
