Abstract

The SWOV has started a research programme on cyclist safety, based on accident analysis studies. The TNO Road-Vehicles Research Institute is also involved in a long term research programme in this field. Within the framework of this programme TNO developed a 3D mathematical model of a vehicle-cyclist impact with the MADYMO CVS package. This model has been used in the present study to perform 35 mathematical simulations in order to show relations between accident input parameters and mechanical output.
