Abstract

Two significant needs had been recognised in order to facilitate efficient control of hazards for the purpose of accident prevention. One is the need for a method to determine the relative seriousness of all hazards for guidance in assigning priorities to preventive effort. The second need is for a method to measure the justification of the estimated cost of the contemplated corrective action. A formula is given that calculates the risk of a hazardous situation.
