Abstract

Based on the combination of the cavitation and the rotation head injury hypotheses, a mathematical model simulating the human head subjected to an abrupt impact was studied. Results indicate that both the shear strain and the reduced pressure might be equally important in causing brain trauma, even in the torsionless, axisymmetric impact load present in this study.
