Abstract

The ever-increasing congestion of urban streets and highways has given rise to attempts to built a theory of traffic flow. Part of this theory consists of mathematical modelling approaches dealing with practical problems in traffic engineering. This article describes some of the models and suggests the direction that future modelling efforts may take.
