Abstract

In 1980 the European Experimental Vehicles Committee has installed a working group to study the state of the art of knowledge on injury prevention for pedestrians. On the basis of this knowledge recommendations should be given to decrease the chance of injury for pedestrians in- car collisions. Furthermore a description should be given for further research to look if the recommendations were also suitable for other road users. With the MADYMO computer program simulations of collisions between cars and two- wheeled vehicles are done. Together with results of some dummy and cadaver experiments it is tried to get a more accurate estimation of the speed of at the moment of the collision. The whole research is aimedto improve the front and bumper design of the car to decrease the injury.
