On a wet pavement surface the macrotexture influences the expulsion of water from the tyre-pavement interfaces, thus affecting the decrease of resistance with speed. Experiments in various countries demonstrate, more or less clearly, a relation between macrotexture and skid resistance-speed gradient. The report describes most of the currently known methods for measuring macrotexture or drainage capability.
