Abstract

The results of a development program to design, demonstrate sans field test a feasible and economical automatic stopped-vehicle detection system are presented. This system would instantly detect, locate and inform a central control of the presence of stopped-vehicles on the freeway and within the adjacent shoulder areas. If desired, speed limit violator could also be detected for law enforcement purposes.
