Abstract

To survey radar cross section (RCS) of automobiles, RCS measurement system for millimeter wave band (MMW band: from 30 to 300GHz) was constructed and RCS measurements using the system were carried out. The results of the measurement were that the frequency characteristics of RCS of passenger cars and mini vans are equivalent to those of trihedral, flat plate, etc. and that the frequency characteristic of RCS of motorcycles is equivalent to those of cylinder. Therefore, it is suggested to use these basic reflectors when automotive MMW radar systems are designed.
