Abstract

The purpose of this book is to provide doctors with evidence and advice which will enable them to decide whether a person is fit to drive or not. Sections are provided on: cardiac conditions; diabetes; epilepsy; disorders of the nervous system; mental illness, personality and behaviour disorders; visual disorders; head injuries and other causes of locomotor disorders; drugs and medicines; ageing; and fatigue. The relevant United Kingdom legislation is given in the appendices. This includes: a) the standards of fitness required of drivers; and b) medical aspects of exemption from seat belt wearing. Some information in the Employment Medical Advisory Service and adaptation of cars for physically handicapped drivers is also provided. (see also B 1773; for 5th edition see C 3643)
