Abstract
The first and second regulations on medical exemption from seat-belt obligation as issued in Sweden in 1974 and 1975, are described. The first regulation permitted exemption for physical reasons only but the 1975 regulation authorized exemption on mental grounds as well. Psychiatric reasons are almost solely claustrophobia and common physical reasons are arthritis, multiple sclerosis, obesity etc.
