Abstract

This Multi Year Programme on Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) mainly contains the Dutch Ministry of Transport and Public Works plans for both traffic and passenger and commodity transportation for 1993-1997. MIT places great emphasis on: (1) the improvement of accessibility to maintain and strengthen the transport and distribution function of the Netherlands, which is one of the central goals of the Dutch Second Structure Scheme on Traffic and Transport (SVV-II); and (2) the reduction of car use. The choice for a "sustainable" society sets limits to the negative influences of traffic and transport, so that the improvement of accessibility should be accompanied by both decreasing and controlling the growth of car traffic. Governmental budget expenditures for infrastructure and transport for 1993-1997 is listed in tabular form.
