Abstract

Another interview was held in 1988 with regard to the driving speed on motorways, after the initial study undertaken in april 1988 (see IRRD 825759). The main purpose of this enquiry was to study if the opinions and motives of the car drivers as regard their speed behaviour on motorways had changed during the first five or six months after the modification of the speed limit on motorways which came into effect as from May 1, 1988. A main part of the enquiry was to ascertain peoples opinions about the publicity and law enforcement activities. The first results of the enquiry are presented in this report and where necessary compared with the data from april 1988. A third written enquiry will be held in april 1989. After the first phase of the new differentiated speed limit policy the results are not unequivocal. The driving speed is indeed lower than before the modification of the speed limit but the preferred speed is higher.
