Abstract
Accident investigation and prevention as a new science is considered by the authors to be in its infancy, and fraught with methodological and to some extent terminological problems. The objectives discussed involve a policy of phased accident reduction over an 8-year programme of 1½ percent per annum. The complex system adopted by the unit is described by reference to a flow diagram, and the relative position of each activity within the system from information and data processing to "implementation" is described.
