Abstract

A method is proposed of selecting appropriate wireless access networks of road-vehicle communication and wireless communication systems for info-communication network of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). Telecommunications Advancement Organization of Japan (TAO) launched a project of "Information communication technology for ITS" and established a research center in 1999. As a part of the project, wireless agent technology to realize a seamless network that consists of several wireless access networks has been researched. The information communication technology for ITS is based on several wireless infrastructures. As wireless systems advance, it is necessary to make good use of features of each system and to combine them suitably. Seamless communications across various wireless networks is realized by the technology, which can find and locate a moving user in various wireless networks, switch to an adequate access network for information services, and continue communications.
