Abstract

This paper presents an integrated framework to support a transport analysis methodology that combines three modelling approaches: macroscopic modelling based on user equilibrium for long term transport planning analysis, mesoscopic modelling based on dynamic equilibrium to account for dynamic aspects in planning analysis and microscopic modelling providing detailed insight of full traffic dynamics for operation analysis in smaller sub-networks. The paper describes the main modelling issues to achieve a proper integration of the three models: computer modelling to ensure consistency and synchronization of transport models based on different network representations and traffic modelling issues concerning the modelling paradigms to be used at each level and their compatibility.
