Abstract

The estimation of the Origin/Destination trip matrices using traffic counts is a method that efficiently combines traffic flow counts with other available information, in order to correct and improve an initial estimate of the origin-destination matrix. In this paper the problem is specified for an extra-urban transit system, with reference to a network diachronic representation (scheduled-based approach). A dynamic estimator is used in order to evaluate the temporal distribution of the daily demand, by using traffic flow counts measured on some links of the network in subsequent temporal intervals.
