Abstract

The paper introduces a methodology for safety improvements along the Greek highway network. The presentation covers data collection (i.e. accident rates, layout characteristics, land use etc), data processing and analysis procedures together with the methods for detection of black spots and the design, implementation and evaluation of safety measures. The presented methodology was applied in a research project with the objective to improve the safety standards along parts of the highway Thessaloniki - Kavala in Northern Greece - a total length of 91 kilometres.
