Abstract

A state of the art of forecasting car ownership and use is presented. In spite of the present economic and social context, car ownership rates continue to increase and information is needed at different decision-making levels to evaluate long-range development programmes. Various forecasting methodologies, focusing on the validity of some predictions using specific types of models as well as the sensitivity of the economic variables taken into account, are studied.
