Abstract

This paper examines alternative methods for collecting the data which is required to determine saturation flows for signalised intersections. The investigation focuses on methods which are capable of collecting real time of event data for vehicles crossing the stopline, as this data is also useful for determining other parameters. The methods examined include the ARRB VDDAS and VADAS equipment along with some other semi- automated techniques. The methods were evaluated and compared in terms of accuracy, simplicity, practicality and cost.
