Methods of standardization of "raw" data from official accident reports that were used in the study of car accidents in the West German state of Nordrhein- Westfalen in 1980 are described. The analysis involved the collection of additional data, that would allow the standardization of "raw" driver- age accident frequency and car- model accident frequency data to account for the relative "exposure" or degree of partic- ipation of driver and car populations in normal traffic.
