Abstract

The main purpose of the miro project was to improve the conditions for obtaining the factual data of accidents and exposure required in traffic safety work. The miro project has been carried out along three main lines. The first deals with routine collecting of accident data and the quality of such data in the four nordic countries concerned. It includes an examination of the possibilities of and the methods for utilization of the aggregate material provided by the official accident statistics of these countries. The second line is focusing on methods for data acquisition from multidisciplinary accident investigations. In this work use has been made of a general study of the literature performed as a sub-project within the miro project, of a methods study carried out in sweden as well as of the resources for multidisciplinary accident investigations built up in sweden and, especially, in finland when examining a methodology for such investigations. The third line relates to the concepts of risk and exposure to accidents and to the description of available data, especially traffic data, of significance in risk evaluations.
