Abstract

The ARCHISIM project stems from a reflexion on the contribution of multi-actors parallel processing for the simulation of a complex system such as road traffic. The choice of this specific processing allows us to take into account the results of research works in the field of psychological analysis of drivers' behaviour in order to enhance the models of traffic simulation. The aim of ARCHISIM is thus to develop a microscopic traffic simulation, based on actual driver behaviour, in various driving conditions, possibly involving in-car or external driving aid devices. ARCHISIM is designed to be connected with interactive driving simulators. In this paper the major methods used in the project and the first results obtained in the research work are presented. At first the overall methodology of the project is presented. Then the main results obtained from an analysis of driver behaviour when driving on a motorway, and the driver model which can develop on this basis are emphasized. Finally, the authors present an analysis and definition of the simulation principles, as well as the integration of the behavioural study in the traffic simulation. As a conclusion, the main contribution of the approach is discussed, putting in perspective psychological methods of driver behaviour investigation and computer methods used to develop traffic simulation.
