The World Health Organization has road safety partners around the world. This report is based on information provided by many of them. Its objectives are two fold: to document the key achievements in the area of road safety made on and since World Health Day 2004; and to inspire action on implementing the recommendations of the World report on road traffi c injury prevention. The target audience is primarily policy-makers and others involved in road safety at country, regional and international levels, who would most benefi t from examples of practical steps that could be taken. This publication refl ects reports from WHO regional and country offi ces, ministries of health and nongovernmental organizations about the World Health Day 2004 events they hosted.
