Abstract
In general, the expectations of the effects of measures to control excessive car mobility, are high. However, after assessment they often disappoint. The success of measures depends on several factors. On the one hand, the measure should be the right solution to the right problem. On the other hand, also a promising measure can fail when the implementation goes wrong. But also the term success is relative: successful implementation does not result automatically in the desired effects. Two case studies are briefly described: (1) the accessibility reduction of the Rome centre (Italy); and (2) park-and-ride in Bristol (UK).
