Abstract
In the car traffic in inner-cities traffic with trip-purpose "shopping " plays an important role. As a result of the relative short parking time of these visitors, they contribute relatively less to the parking problems. The shopper by car has little or no intention to switch to bicycle or public transport, when these modes of transport would be improved. Only by car-restraining measures less shopping by car can be achieved. However, this may damage the function of the inner-city as heart of city life, because other shopping centres can become relatively more attractive. For the long term other distribution systems or town planning measures may present better possibilities.
