Abstract

This good practice guidance on mini roundabouts seeks to help UK traffic engineers understand what a mini roundabout is and how it should be used. Individual chapters address the following topics: definition of a mini roundabout and its uses (to improve the operation of an existing junction, as an accident remedial measure, as a traffic calming measure and as an access to a new development); site assessment issues (stage 1 and 2 site assessment, visibility, vehicle speed, road character, traffic volume, number of arms, traffic composition, vulnerable road users, consultation, road network, noise and vibration); and existing practice at example sites. Post implementation monitoring and maintenance of mini roundabouts, driver behaviour, and road user education for mini roundabouts are discussed.
