Abstract

It appears that where the cost per unit distance (or speed) varies continuously throughout an area, conformal transformations can often be used to simplify the process of determining cheapest (or quickest) routes. This process also allows iso-cost curves (or curves of equal journey time) to be plotted easily, and could be used to study the properties of a variety of transport systems.
