During the last decades there has been a change in spatial structures. In earlier times living and working places were near to each other, today they are distributed in a much bigger space. This has consequences for public transport. It becomes more and more difficult to fulfill the demand of transport. The aim of this report is to draw a global picture of the demand to transport, the offer of transport and the possible addition on the existing network of regional public transport with tangential bus lines. As an example the western part of the Netherlands, the Randstad, is choosen. A design for a transport network which provides for the demand of tangential trips is presented.
