Abstract

The University of California PATH program (PATH), under the sponsorship of California Office of Traffic Safety, is developing an application tool for use in documenting highway incidents. The development was intended for the use of California Highway Patrol officers. The application runs on a hand-held computing device. Its features include the necessary information typically recorded and documented by law-enforcing officers for roadside incident handling. The availability of such an application and other enhanced functions can considerably reduce the time needed at a crash scene, therefore enabling the expedition of post-incident handling and roadway recovery, and potentially cutting down associated traffic congestion.
