Abstract

Private transport prognoses predict an increase in traffic mileage in the Federal Republic of Germany of around 15- 20%. While mobility in public transport is declining, mobility in private transport will not decrease before 2010. The process of European integration and the structural changes in the economy mean an increase in traffic levels in heavy goods road traffic about 3- 40%. These predictions underline the importance of expanding transportation networks according to requirements and demand.
