Abstract

The Dutch Council for Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment (VROM) advice titled "Mobility within Reason" suggests that physical planning is not very effective to influence national mobility. However, Amsterdam survey shows that due to physical planning people make longer trips than they would like to do so. On the one hand, bringing home and work closer to each other should have an effect on trips and mobility. On the other hand, by speeding down the transport system people should be stimulated to seek a dwelling closer to their working place. (A)
